Nothing can lead to success in our life, but determination.Yet determination is the result of different factors. In the case of a famous young Burundian volleyball player, these were a good education, the influence of the place where he was raised, his personality, some opportunities and the way he is making his dreams reality. It is true that where there is a will there is a way, and the combination of those last reasons, amongst others, are making Sixte Nderagakura, a famous volleyball player.

Everything has a foundation. And if we credit education as one main component of this foundation, we can see where Sixte gets such strength. From his family and elementary school to his experience in boarding school, and still, during campus’ life, he had the benefit of good guidance, model and management. Indeed, illustrations are numerous, from a balanced family life that influenced the next steps of his education. He was selected for seminary school where he learned two extremely valuable things: what makes an organization strong, and that: “a hungry man is an angry man”. From this experience, he gained a healthy diet and good schedule habits that sustains sport time and attraction for such a young boy. He could then pretend to be a future sportsman.

In addition to such a foundation, to succeed, people need favorable social development. That may mean, especially for Sixte, the place where he grew up. Born in 1987, his home was not located at some miles from the main and professional “sport complex”. So, he could since very young, follow and learn from sport events. Moreover, he could learn from his elder brothers who are also very good sportsmen. Finally, once at the secondary school level, he experienced competitive matches opposing local schools, including his.

Younger ones –because they grow up in an environment where it was/it isn’t important to be successful, they don’t even talk about their dreams. But both think that I am lucky that I am doing the things as I do”, Canaves introduced his lecture.

Retreated into Kanyosha seminary boarding management, located in Bujumbura, his social development was boosted as he also distinguished himself both in general education and in sports. There, he gained interest from his Rector, Father Muyehe Emmanuel, who was a good sportsman too, and the neighborhood sport community.

Consequently, he was recruited by local and international teams that had pinpointed as a successful volleyball player. He has been targeted by teams from Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, etc.

Looking beyond these valuable opportunities, Sixte never disappointed neither his family, nor his surroundings, as he thrived developing the kind of young boys’ model personality. This prepared him to be a disciplined and successful volleyball player.

To understand this personality, let us highlight the behavior of a boy who still likes challenges. He is the kind of guy who never gives up. A great example of this was his decision to defeat those who believed that science can’t fit sport, by opting for medicine studies. Those are the longest course of studies in the whole region.

In terms of sport, Sixte also developed a group behavior, which includes qualities such as tolerance, relationship, etc… He also sharpened his physical and mental skills such as endurance and jumping capacities, which contributed to making him a winning athlete.

As a result, although the very soon physician to be, is a young man, and from countryside, he is making his life a successful one, especially known in Burundi, and in the whole Africa Great Lakes region, as a famous volleyball player. Already, Nderagakura widely travelled in different countries on the call of different local and international volleyball clubs. The combination of good education, social and personal development may be summed up as the reasons of his winning estate. Therefore, that esteemed young man, and all the factors hidden behind his profile may recall that “When you really want something, the entire universe conspires to help you achieving your goals”, as the King told Santiago in the “Alchemist”.
